I've been running off and on for the past 5-6 years.
I ran a 5K in 2009 and a 10K in 2011. My ultimate goal is to run a half marathon.
I started the training for this event twice and quit half way both times.
Last week, a former student of mine emailed me and asked if I did my half in May. She asked if I was interested in running one with her in September.
I replied that I hadn't ran since March and that I always start the training for a HM and always quit and I did not want to disappoint myself again.
She replied the same thing and that's why she was asking me to participate with her so it would motivate her to run and do it.
So I told myself, why not? When I do try to train for this event, I get my runs in, no matter what.
Last night I emailed her to ask if she got her run in? She said she found a training online and had started to train.
So last night...I ran! It was only 20 minutes but I did it!
My training book that I follow is HM training for beginners. It's a 14 week program and you can chose which training you want to follow. Last time I had chosen running to improve time. When I got to running 1h30 I quit because it overwhelmed me.
This time, I chose the program, running for beginners. So this first week, I had to run 10 minutes Tuesday, 10 minutes Thursday and 15 minutes Sunday. My husband almost laughed and said, I hope you run more than that. I did 20, since I haven't ran in like 2 months! Slow and easy and steady to finish this race!!
