Nice thoughts about the retirement brunch...

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

I guess I am nurturing myself today by dwelling on the friends at the party and looking over things I got from the retirement party. Three helium balloons and the framed group of school photos and the cards are decorating the living room. There are 8 photos of me from the year books. Just head shots. All have huge glasses except the last one. Now I don't need glasses for distance. And most of the photos have perms. I think of myself as having straight hair so those photos were a shock. And some photos were groups of us at school, just starting out as teachers. We looked so young!

Some photos will be coming.

I had no internet for 2 days! Withdrawal ! The workman was here 3 hours yesterday. Fixed at last! And it wasn't anything I did! Yeah!

Today (after trying for 6 years!) a social worker from the state is coming here to see if they have any programs to help me with DH. My finances have changed so now maybe we are eligible. Keep your fingers crossed.

On retiring, I had to stop the evening aides. I kept the morning one to save my sanity. I pay myself so the aides got to be too expensive. $1920 per month and really all they did was stay for one hour -- AM get him up and washed and dressed and breakfasted and do something related to his laundry and PM in the evening -Putting him in bed --doing less than in the morning reaslly. That is a lot of money for not really much help.

Best Wishes on your retirement. Sometimes it seems we are working more since we retired..wonder how we had time to work before! LOL !
The cost of aides is frightening. Hope that you can qualify for some help in that area.

Happy Wishes on your retirement! Enjoy!!

Wow that's a huge amount of monthly money if they don't do much. . .I hope you get some help soon with Chris's care. I really admire you for sticking to teaching for so many years--it's a very hard job. Enjoy your retirement as you've earned it! Don't forget to take care of yourself and get in some ME time as otherwise it's going to be too stressful on you.

Hugs,

Jill

I hope things work out for you with the social worker. Keep on networking and see what you can find. You may be able to get a bonded live in through a place for less money than the shift type of workers. That is, if you don't mind a live in.

Many hugs coming to you for your nice retirement party, and for your retirement!

I watch with anticipation to see your retirement bloom.. Praying with you for good and affordable help with DH. How does he feel about it all? Social workers are often tremendous help but more often it is those that have walked a mile in your shoes that bring out the best ideas and programs. Keep networking and find good situations for you . Hugs and prayers

We recently subscribed for help and were denied. They went less by our needs and more by our income. When we learned the costs of hiring help, I will do my best to do it all. It won.t be easy. I hope you fare better.

I hope the social worker will be able to help you out. Be totally honest about the situation - including your own health issues. If you say you need it then feel shy about being totally honest about what you can and can't do they can't help you in every way they can.

Good to know the internet is fixed - I was wondering why I hadn't seen you on.

Congratulations on retiring, Chris! You deserve an huge THANK YOU for all the years that you have dedicated to educating 'our' kids - in my opinion teachers do not ever get enough Thanks for all that they give, and that they put up with...

Without all the wonderful teachers out there, we would not have our next generation(s) of lawyers, doctors, engineers, teachers, tradespeople, etc.

Glad to hear that you had a good time, and now will have even more memories that you can treasure. Enjoy your retirement, my friend - You HAVE EARNED IT!!!

It would be really wonderful if you can finally get the extra help with your husband. Good help is hard to find, and to keep, so I will keep my fingers crossed that it will work out as you are hoping!

Hugs, Congratulations, and another big Thank You too,
Kathy

Maybe things will get a bit easier now, if you can get that assistance... good luck!

And congratulations on your retirement, that's a HUGE step--from the sound of it you won't have any trouble finding ways to keep busy! LOL

Congratulations on your retirement!! I'm looking at that myself this month. Keep your fingers crossed for me that all goes well and I can actually retire. The bosses are looking for my replacement and then maybe I can leave. So looking forward to it. Take care and don't try to do too much now that you're retired. Be sure to take time for yourself and focus on you for just a little while each day. You deserve it!!! Hugz, Sharon
