Trail Training Journal - Entry 3

We just returned from another fun filled hike at Green Lakes. This time we had oldest DD tagging along. Right off the bat we saw a fawn. I pulled out my camera to take a picture (I planned ahead to bring the camera & trail map!) and it wouldn't do a thing!!! Yep, the batteries were dead.....damn you Murphy! Along the trail we saw several cool birds, a bunch of rabbits and a total of 2 deer. Inspiring all together though.
What made today's hike interesting was Mum Nature. The forecast called for spotty showers. When we left the house it was mostly clear & sunny. When we parked it was still sunny & clear. That didn't last long!!! A big grey cloud moved overhead and kept us cool. As we turned around we could see the rain coming at us. It was pretty amazing. The rain started as the occasional drop and then a drizzle. We found cover right as the heavy rain moved in. It lasted for a couple of minutes and finally I got bored waiting and moved out. Neat part was that it stopped!!! We reached an overlook and could see the rain moving off:
As for the hike itself....it was pretty challenging! We did the "yellow" or "Deer Run" trail which is now blazed green, makes for a bit of confusion. The map shows the trail as a 2.12 mile trail that had an increase in altitude of 200', but it wasn't just up then down, it was up and down and up and down and level and up then back down. It was good!! I did pretty well and am VERY proud of myself!
We are looking at a change to one of our August weekends so now I'm thinking of seeing if DH will take on part of the FLT rather than waiting until next summer. I think I'm almost ready....mentally anyway!
