Our DD began her first "real" job as a lawyer yesterday. In the two years since she graduated from law school, she had been clerking for an appellate court judge of Missouri. She loved the work, the people... however as a "public servant, " she was being paid "servant' wages. She didn't mind that so much except for the students loans she used to get through law school.
We were happy to support our children through undergraduate school and glad that we could. (Although they made it easy by earning scholarships.) However, we made it clear that any education beyond that was their own business.... which means both of kids now are more in debt than we ever have been in our lives.
DD hates debt and really was worrying about how to clear it. She initially went to the interview for this job not thinking she wanted it and just for the interview experience. She loved them, they loved her and now she is working in a law office.
She is thrilled for the first time in her working life (she worked in corporate American for 6 years before going to law school), she has her own office, with, as she said, a door that closes. She has a beautiful view out her window of the Mississippi and the Arch. She also got an IPone, IPad, laptop and will be traveling to California on Wednesday. I know she will be working hard, but I am so happy for her that the hard work will also be fulfilling.
