Last week, I got hungry for Thanksgiving dinner, so went and bought a turkey breast and made plans to roast it for Sunday dinner.
As I started making preparations for our Thanksgiving in June, I realized I would have way too much food for the three of us, so invited son and his family. Then I decided it would be fun for me if the kids spent the night and all day Monday while their parents were at work. At first I thought this might be too much for me, but decided I felt good enough to give it a try. I did avoid picking up Amber, the almost 3-year old, to avoid lifting more than my 10-lb. limit. But I feel great, almost 100% already!
After dinner we all went outside and did some sidewalk chalk writing on the driveway.
Amber & Duncan both love to play in the back of the pick-up.
Amber and her Uncle Durch (that's how she says his name, Chris) went for a walk, while Duncan did some running. He renamed our shed "Happy World." I guess he likes it up there.
Then Amber decided it was time to do her nails--as we always do when she comes out.
I got some nice pictures of both kids with the flowers that are blooming right now.
Then both kids decided to explore the rest of the yard and just ran and ran....
stopping once in a while to check out the trees.
After son and his wife left, we came inside and Amber played games on the computer at NickJr.com, both kids love that site.
Amber wanted some "lip" (that's what she calls lip gloss), and I had bought her a new set, it came in a little mini Hello Kitty case, which she loves!
Amber likes to take pictures too, and she snapped this one of me....
We spent the time before bed, just playing. Amber liked the little microphone we bought at Christmas time, it converts your voice so that you sound like an Elf. It's cute but VERY LOUD!
Then she decided to pretend that she was scared and her Grandpa Du had to protect her on the couch!
The next morning Amber requested toast for breakfast
Duncan had donut holes which I had specifically bought for them to eat, but Amber didn't want those!
Then it was back outside for more fun!
We took a short walk down the road...
Then Amber had to wait while Uncle Durch got a rock out of her shoe.
Then back to running.
Duncan rested for a moment in a neighbor's yard.
More walking (these are three of my favorite people in the whole world)!
Then it was time to come back home...
(I made Amber pose by the recently planted wagon on the way up the driveway)
And head for the park!
Where they slid...
After a short rest, we walked across the road and up to the hill to see the Indian. This is a special spot for us because we have a wonderful picture of my dad when he was a young man at this very same Indian statue. He actually climbed up on the Indian's shoulders, and someone snapped a picture of him up there. We're guessing it was in the early 1940's. We saw the sign yesterday said the statue was put up in 1935. Chris walked all around the statue and decided his Grandpa must have had a few beers before he attempted the climb!
Duncan enjoyed collecting sticks. The kids have a real fascination for pine cones, rocks and sticks, they always have collections of them when they're at our house. I guess they're not so common in the city where they live??
Amber had to get protection from Uncle Durch when some park workers walked by. (She's pretty shy.)
But she quickly recovered and had fun "walk walk walking" (as she calls it while she's doing it) up and down the steps near the statue.
We stopped at the Dairy Sweet near the park on the way to McDonalds. So the kids ended up having ice cream for lunch and Happy Meals for dessert. ONLY at Grandma's house!!
As I sat with the kids while they ate their ice cream Duncan asked me why I wasn't having any ice cream. I said, "Because I don't want to get fat." He said, "Again?" I had thought he probably didn't remember me as morbidly obese--but evidently he does.
Duncan had fun when we got home, trying on Durch's cowboy boots and playing ball with him. He even took a short ride on the 4-wheeler, he is usually too scared of how loud it is to take a ride, but Durch convinced him! As an Albino, Duncan's sight isn't good and we always think his hearing must be a little more sensitive because of that.
While Amber slept off her big morning upstairs. She took a LONG nap!
As I told my husband, as much as I love having those kids out, it is always a relief when they finally go home. But I'm always ready to have them come back very soon! What a joy it is to be able to take part in their lives more fully now!
