NM Trip/Continental Divide Trail - Part 2 - more pictures

Monday, June 04, 2012

One of the things on my 'bucket list' was to hike along the Continental Divide Trail - at one point, of course, I had the delusion I would hike it end-to-end as a through-hike. Not exactly a practical idea so when I got more realistic, I realized hiking sections of the trail would more than fulfill my dreams so you can imagine how thrilled I was when I visited my SparkFriend Linda [LINDAKAY228] and got the chance to hike along part of that beautiful, beautiful New Mexico area!!!

After looking at these pictures, I don't think anyone is going to wonder WHY I wanted to hike here - who wouldn't??

We drove along a gorgeous highway to get to the trailhead Linda had in mind.

It has the whimsical name "Trail of Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway"

Although I enjoyed the drive tremendously, I was more than thrilled when we got to the trailhead and I could see the Continental Divide Trail marker!

We didn't hike very far as we had other destinations to see later in the day but it was the type of area I could have stayed all day!

Especially with my two beautiful hiking companions - LindaKay228 and Princess!

As you can see, Princess is quite a hiker, although she does look like she wouldn't want to do anything other than sit in someone's lap [although to be truthful, that is her other favorite activity!!]

C'mon you guys, hurry up!! There's a lot of trail to explore!

Can you tell why we had the urge to just keep going and going??

Another picture of Linda - it's amazing how similar we are, even down to the speed and type of hiking we like to do!!

When the temperatures start to get warmer, Princess turns into a 'shade-seeking missile,' darting from shady spot to shady spot.

We saw the remnants of what appeared to be a rock cabin or shelter of some sort.

And Princess had plenty of interesting things to smell, too.

A good time was had by all on this trail, as you can imagine - hope you've enjoyed the pictures!

Ah yes, it was so much fun! And Princess was such a good sport even when it got hotter later and we had worn her out. Course it would have been worse for her if she had been allowed to hike up to the Cliff Dwellings with us LOL! At least she got a rest then. We'll have to have an opportunity to hike more of the CD trail in the future.
