Saturday night I went kayak shopping. I checked the local place, but they were out of my price range. I ended up at LL Bean, they were having a great sale, 20% off all kayaks, and the packages came with a paddle, cockpit cover and a removable dashboard. I bought the Pungo 100, and since I applied for their Visa card, I got an additional 10% off, so I ended up getting the life vest for free.
They also have a course every weekend at the lake by my house. It's $20 for 1.5 hours and you don't have to bring anything - they even have sunscreen and shoes if you need them. I got to try the kayak that I bought. The weather kept changing, so we went out on perfectly smooth water. When we got across the lake, a cloud came in and it started to pour - so hard that I could not see. It was cold and windy, and the water was rough. We paddled across the lake and by the time we got back to where was started, the sun was out and the water was smooth again. We paddled back across to the inlet that went to the dam and on the way back, the wind kicked up and we paddled into it. I got a good taste of how the lake can change and the different types of conditions. All was good, I handled it all without any problems in the kayak.
There is a group that meets every Wednesday evening from the same place, so I signed up for this Wednesday to try out my kayak and gear.
When I got home, inbetween rain storms, I took Max for a quick walk around the block. I wish the weekend people weren't in such a hurry, I was dodging cars on the one main road that I walk on. I tried to stay out of their way, but on the curve I couldn't get to the next road quick enough. Rude drivers.
