I've been playing around with various fitness apps for smartphones. Mapmyfitness, Endomondo, and Allsports (by Trimble). I like all three of them, but have currently been using the Endomondo app the most.
These apps are awesome for tracking outdoor workouts...running, walking, cycling and lots of other sports. Each app is a little different, but they all use GPS to track distance, time, elevation changes etc. I find it's a great motivator to be able to look at my workouts and compare them. Since I carry my phone anyway for safety and listen to music or audiobooks with it while I work out, it's a "no-brainer" for me to use it to track my workout too.
The Endomondo app can also pick up heartrate with the right kind of HR strap. None of my straps work with it, so I still wear a HR strap and watch. At some point, I might get a strap with bluetooth capabilities so I can have all that info in one place.
I like the Endomondo app the best because it has great interval training programming options that I use for programming in run/walking.
I'm curious if any of my Sparkfriends are using Endomondo or any other apps to track their workouts. It would be great if Sparkpeople included those capabilities it its app or became partners with one of the apps already out there so we could automatically enter our workout data from our apps and maybe even show it in our Friend feed (or something like that).
Anyway....I'd love to hear from you on your own App experiences.
Have a great day!
