Yesterday was my last day as a "full-time" hospital employee. I took a part-time position a couple months ago, but they had to wait a little bit before I could start those hours. It starts on Monday! My old schedule was every Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 7:30am-8:00pm. I HATED working every Friday, since it was my husbands only day off (since he's a pastor and our church has Saturday and Sunday services). This position became available and it's every Monday, but then it alternates Tuesdays and Fridays. So one week I work Monday and Tuesday, the next week I work Monday and Friday. I will always have Wednesdays and Thursdays off. We also have to take on-call time for emergency surgeries. The shift on this position is different than what I was on- it's 10:30am-11:00pm. I wasn't too sure about the 11:00pm time with my kids, but really by the time I got home my kids were going to bed in about 30 minutes anyways. Now I will have some time with them in the mornings, and during the school year it will be easier to get them to school. Financially, I was a little worried about cutting out 12 hours a week of pay, but I know that God will provide and everything will work out. I am excited to be able to spend more time with my family. And the best news that we just found out: my husband is now going to be off on Thursdays as well as Fridays! So we will ALWAYS have Thursdays off together. We decided that in the summer we are going to use that as a "beach day" and take the kids to different beaches each time. We have a couple that we really enjoy, so we can alternate those. We could even go away for a couple days if I'm off that Friday as well. We could pack up and leave as soon as he gets out of work on Wednesdays (4:00pm) and he doesn't have to be to work till 12:00 on Saturdays. Of course we won't do that too often because of finances, but it's an option! I'm so happy that they let me start my part-time schedule now since I will have more time with my boys and it will help out a lot with finding childcare for them.
