Loving Leone...

Friday, June 01, 2012

Telling my girl "I love you"

She's my life and my love no matter what scars I have on my body from our work together it is going to hurt very badly saying goodbye to her on tuesday.

Here we are shopping together at Costco.

I purchased a new collar for her that is called "Halti" It has a strap that goes around her neck like a basic collar and some straps around her nose area. It keeps her head and neck area still. She can still pull me but the idea is to keep her at my side and train her to not pull away from my side. I've been slowly working with her with permission from our trainers. she's done quite well but has done a whole body pull rather than a head pull and at 70$'s she is a strong girl. But we're doing better.

Tuesday early afternoon a Trainer from GDD will be coming here and talk to me and los of questions and paperwiork. We will also work a short route. I might take her to the hospital I have my infusion in and walk the halls and show her how Leone and i work together. then I ahve to say goodbye to Leone. she will be flying back to Palm Springs and endure some Evaluation and possible training. If they can't fix her pulling problem they will keep her. if it can be fixed she will be returned to me. that is my goal to ahve her brought back to me.

In all of our time together distractions by mostly dogs on the roads or in the aprk are our main issue. she will pull to go play with the other dog hence me getting inuured.

Pryers please.

    Look how skinny you are!

I hope Leone can benefit from more intensive training, and hurry back to you. I know you will miss her terribly. they're like our kids -- we forgive them their difficulties because we love them unconditionally. I'm tellin' ya -- there are days when Charlie would definitely qualify for wall therapy if I didn't love her enough to forgive her!

Dogs can become like one of the family. Some I think can read your mind and know exactly what you are talking about. Hope all works out for you two.

It's really hard to get attached and face the possibility of having to say goodbye... I had a service dog who had that issue for a while. It took some time to train him out of it, and he too was 70+ pounds. Thing is, you just can't risk the injury, so I hope its resolved to everyone's satisfaction... all my best to you both!

    Debbie,
I'm wiping a tear as I read this blog. My prayers are with both you and Leone. I hope she is able to get her wondering eye for the other pups under control and is back with you soon. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers in the next few weeks. Please keep us all posted. Have a blessed weekend and give Leone a big kiss from all of us dog lovers.

DEBS I hope you can impress on them how much you love Leone. There has to be a way to help her to ignore those other dogs. I really want her to be back at you side.

I hope all goes well and she behaves and comes back to you - she's family! We went through 3 halti collars on Millie - she ate them - I guess they're not real good with puppies.

It makes me cry to think this is such a one-track thing for Leone. IT is obvious that she loves you, obvious she wants to do her job,, this one glitch , although very serious to you, is such a simple, a quick response thing.. I pray that the trainers will concentrate on it, behavior management concentrated without the danger of any injury to anybody...
Debbieanne, you always land on your feet, no pun intended, really, so we all are thinking in a positive tone for you both..
