Since my son's departure for heaven in September, no truer words were ever spoken.
In his memory we have his new home here in the upstairs foyer. I say good morning to him daily and as I do I thank God for every moment that we shared. What a special and precious gift he was.
Each of us have gifts in our life which we do not count as we are too busy complaining about what we do not have: what some insignificant and perceived hurt that another caused; what that terrible company is doing( the bank, the loan company, the big gas company, etc.); what recognition that we were denied; what return of our affections that was rejected: what promotion went to someone who created a better presence and portrayal of what the company wanted to project to others; and on and on and on. One would spend much better time from properly evaluating the reasons for the problem and if there are corrections that you can make.
Let us talk today about the Gift that we have each day.
G- another day to make a goal and prepare the steps to reach it. How many times does someone say I want to lose weight? A rhetorical question, yes, but one that needs to be examined. Wanting to do something and it becoming a reality takes planning and education.
Educate yourself to your obstacles, your weaknesses, your own personal emotional demons and your understanding of nutrition and exercise. You need to plan menus, buy the proper foods, buy the proper tools for weighing, measuring and storage. You need to track what you do and for how long- keep a journal. Ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist if you can afford one or go to the local health department and see if they have that service available.
I- Develop insight into your own personal triggers. Plan how to overcome them and if it is a person how to avoid that person or how to tactfully say no thank you to them in a firm and loving manner. Examine the feelings that you are truly having when the temptations become greater than the knowledge of what is good for you. Once you face those demons of temptation it becomes easier to control them.
F- Plan for fun activities that promote exercise. Join a group bowling team, find a walking partner, get an MP3 player and put your favorite upbeat music for exercise and your favorite relaxing music for stretching that your body needs. On the days when stress is high, remember those things that you particularly find relaxing. Make a list of these things and cut them out and put them into a fun jar for those days you need me time more. Pull one out for your allotted time and enjoy. Remember too to make a jar of treats that you give yourself when you have reached a goal and draw one on that day and give it to yourself. Enlist family members to give you me time. YOU DESERVE IT! If your job is to meet all their needs, then me time becomes even more of a necessity. Food is not the best way to give you me time.
T-Time is always a special commodity in today's hectic world. Learn to prepare meals where there are leftovers and save those little trays from the microwave frozen dinners and make your own from the leftovers. This will save you time for the me time too. It will also enable you to eat as you should on the days when you are preparing special meals for the family.
Yes every day is a gift! It is one to share with others in your life. I chose not to live it riding those carts or using a cane. I chose to live it as healthy as I can until I die. I cannot chose for you how you want to live your life. It is a personal choice.
