Stateside I Will Be!

Friday, June 01, 2012

Some have asked where I am going when I go stateside this year. Yes, I will be visiting family and friends and putting a bit of a twist to it this year.

Lord willing I will fly from Guam to Tennessee via Hawaii and Chicago arriving the same day as I left but at least 21 hours later thanks to the International Date Line. I am visiting a retired teacher and will be going to Branson, Missouri for the musicals and then going to Bardstown, Kentucky for the Stephen Foster program. Then returning to her home.

I will then fly to South Bend, Indiana to visit another retired teacher for a few days and then to Portland, Oregon, for a grand nieces graduation from Nursing School and a get together with my nieces and nephews.

I will leave for Albuquerque, New Mexico the following Tuesday for a visit with another retired teacher who was my mentor when I started teaching. We will be attending a Messianic Christian Service while I am there of which I am very excited!

When I leave Albuquerque I will fly up to Denver and meet a niece and we will drive to McCook, Nebraska and then up to Arnold, Nebraska where my Mom was born in 1905. I have always wanted to see the plains from the ground and always wanted to see where my Mom spent much of her childhood before completely settling on the West Coast.

We will return to Denver and I will fly to Portland and join a cousin on the Washington coast for a few days. We will be attending a family reunion that has been going on for years. I remember being at one of these get togethers when I was about five years old.

After the reunion in a matter of days I will be returning to Guam.

Now is that enough to make your head swim?

Anyway I may get on SP sometimes depending on whomever I am stay with having a
computer. There are a few that do not.

All of this flying is done on standby but God has been good and I may not get to where I want to go as early as I want but I usually get there in a reasonable time. Prayers are appreciated.

Hope you all have a good summer.

Jane, soon leaving Guam to see America! emoticon

Prayers for just as much fun and awe you can pack into your trip. Not to mention a timely and safe trip.. I love it!! Branson is one of our 'special' places, we visit often and even bought a time share there.. You will LOVE Stephen Foster's.... Oops! I'm confused.. "My Old KY Home" is in Kentucky.. Never saw play, one time we did see all the ladies dressed in period time out in front on the lawns, but had no time to stop. Another time we stopped but it was closed.. So enjoy it for Max and I also, please.. Sad it was his cousin's house, not his, but he spent some time there..

I always loved Stephen Fosters songs, I thought the man had such a deep love of the land.. I was broken hearted to learn that he never saw the Suwannee River, hard to believe. In your travels if you ever get to go to the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in Florida, it would be well worth your time.. Do you know any teacher friend in Florida? The museum features exhibits about Foster's most famous songs and his music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon. It is so lovely, to listen to and the grounds have lots of activities going on.. They have many - shadow boxes framed with little scenes that move for so many of his songs.. Chickens pecking, Steamships on the river, very interesting.. This is my mistake, I mixed them up...

Sounds like you will be a very busy, busy lady. When do you leave?? When do you hope to return?? Awesome trip.. I will want to hear all about it when you get home.. Don't forget.. Have nothing but fun. Enjoy seeing where your mom grew up, it is lovely country also.. But you know I LOVE all God's creations!!! Wishing you all perfect flight connections.. emoticon

Hugs, Carole
