Sorry! I forgot to cross-post these, so I've got two today and a new one coming tomorrow.
Hellooo! So having an extra day off was nice and I’m definitely glad I wasn’t running in yesterday’s heat or its storms. I started week three today!
Basically that means a lot more huffin’ and puffin’.
I went from doing 90 seconds of running and 2 minutes of walking to adding in two intervals of 3 minutes of running. Yes, you read that right, double the previous maximum time I’d run.
And you know what?
It went well.
I was definitely feeling it during both 3 minute runs and the first one I was thinking, “God, I’ve got to at least be halfway there because I feel like I’m ready to go back to walking,” and then the nice British lady came on and kindly informed me that I was, in fact, halfway through my 3 minute run don’t-mind-as-I-dodge-the-gees
e-snapping-at-me and to keep going.
I really like this podcast. She gives out some running tips and I actually managed to follow the breathing in for 4 steps, breathing out for 4 steps for part of my first run (I am actually really crap at controlling my breathing and never seem to be able to do it properly so I always, somehow run out of breath and then all hell breaks loose), but the second tip she gave me was pretty awesome.
She said to pretend as if you are running alongside a hedge and the hedge is just high enough that the person running along on the other side can just see the top of your head. Now, try to run so that they can’t tell if you are running or walking, that is, take the bounce out of the run as it just expends extra energy and doesn’t add anything to the run.
I was bouncing.
But I took it to heart and to practice and I actually felt as though I were running more quickly (which I probably was) because I was spending more time going horizontal than vertical.
It was a very good run and definitely pushed some of my limits, but I think, weather permitting, I will try to run a little harder on Wednesday.
