Just when I thought I was on a roll.......

I just got a new job the second week in April. Yea!!! I did my training on 1st shift, then 3 weeks ago, I moved to 3rd shift which will be my permenent shift from now on. Now it's been a year and a half since I've had a full time job. And have I been tired. My body has been off balance, my sleep rhythm is off, I haven't been working out.... been drinking too much caffine. I even ended up going to a walk-in clinic because I got sick at work, dizziness, vomiting, headache. I found out I had a few problems going on. 1) I was dehydrated 2) migraine 3) stressed induced high blood pressure and for the first time - I was told that my blood sugar level was a little low.
WOW!!! That put things into perspective for me. I HAVE to take time for me, and for my health. I can't work a job if I don't put me first. My health has been shaky for the last 4 years. So if anyone has a bit of advice, or words of encouragement. I could really use it.

    Working on 3rd shift is difficult, but not impossible. Your body needs time to adjust to a different schedule.....eating, sleeping etc. What I did (worked this shift many moons ago) was sleep shortly after coming home from work.....setting the alarm for 6-7 hours later....get up shower...eat my first meal ...... get my walking in...and any other daily things that needed to get done.....eat my second meal...pack my third meal and a couple of snacks...and get ready for work. After a while I actually ended up eating lunch when I got up.....dinner like normal...and eating breakfast at work....this worked for me. Hang in there and just find the type of schedule that you can live with.....changing shifts at this point is not an option so you need to adapt as best you can....good luck and please keep us posted on how things are going.... emoticon

    3rd shift is tough enough all by itself, then trying to loose weight and be active opposite of everyone else, and what u r used to will tkae some adjusting. U will have to b diligint, and it will take time, u will probably have to make adjustments one step at a time, FIRST is hydrate and rest! the other things u can add them when u get the other two down! Good luck!

    Please remember to always get enough rest and water!!! A full time job will not do you any good if you are too sick to work!

Don't be too hard on yourself either. It takes time to adjust to a major life change such as going back to work full time.
