Chasing two rabbits?

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

It just occurred to me that I'm trying to do two goals at the same time: staying on my food plan and practicing piano 3 hours a day. I started both goals at the same time (3 days ago)
I wonder if this is a good idea? I read somewhere that it's better to just work on one habit at a time ... someone said "if you chase two rabbits both will escape"
If I have to choose just one goal, then it would have to be my food plan. I am really obese (234 pounds) and already have high blood pressure and diabetes caused by the obesity, so there is no question as to which goal is more urgent.

I think maybe making one your main goal and letting the other take a back seat would be a good idea. As a musician, I know how hard it can be to sit down and practice productively for three hours every day. I'm still not at that point with my flute playing, and I'm a performance major! I would maybe make the practicing into a smaller, easier goal to manage. Maybe shoot for one hour of really productive practice each day, and more if you can manage it? I'm in a similar position with my practicing and losing weight at the same time, and I've chosen to stick really hard to my health goals and practice as much as I can, but not set a number on it.

Either way, good luck with both of your goals! emoticon
