Yesterday, our community of faith in our state lost a man of integrity and compassion. Gary Taylor, our state evangelism director and a longtime Missouri Baptist pastor lost his battle with liver cancer. He was 70 years old and leaves behind his second wife, Cindy who lost her first husband to cancer several years ago. Gary had also, lost his first wife to cancer as well.
When i think of him, i will always remember his contagious smile and the integrity and compassion for others with which he lived. My hope and prayer is to be half the pastor that he has been, and to live with the same type of integrity and grace.
One of the churches that he pastored was just a few miles from my hometown, so he became somewhat of a local legend among baptists. He pastored one of the largest churches in our state for over fifteen years before coming to our state convention where we worked together for about five years.
Today i am thankful that the Father saw fit to allow our paths to cross.
