What does your Belly Dance name mean? We choose dance names for various reasons, safety, artistic meaning, beauty, and personal preference. When we put on our costumes and our name we become our alter egos. Our dance name can transform us into goddesses, vamps, and ethereal beings.
My name is Ankhesenamun, chosen for the beauty of the name and the meaning. Ankhesenamun (ank-sA-Na-moon) translats to "Her life Is of Anum" or "her life is for the moon", aka "Moon angel"). My name sake was a queen of the 18th dynasty of Egypt the 3rd known daughter of Pharaoh Akhenaten and his royal wife Nefertiti. She was the wife and half sister of King Tutankhamun. She lived 1348- after 1322 BC.
The closet translation in English is "She lives for the Moon" with a looser translation of "Moon Angel" deriving from the closet known Egyptian meaning of "Her life is of Anum" meaning the House of Anum. I personally, feel the name so translation are nice and historic, however when I feel the name it takes me on flight to worlds unknown.
I choose this name for the sound , feel, and meaning. A student of Ancient Egyptian religion and culture it resonated with me. After hearing the name ' Anuksunamun'on an American movie “The Mummy” I researched the origins and found Ankhesenamun and her rich history.
When I put on my jingly hip scarf and the name I become that young lovely Egyptian princess and Queen. My state alters and I dance as if I am dancing for the Pharaoh or the King himself.
If you do not already have a dance name, I encourage you to find one with meaning for you. Research the name, make a connection with the name, then dance as if you are in the Ancient World. Use your new alter ego to whisk you away to places unknown to the mundane world.
