Painful Experience and How Far I've Come

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Well I'm a day late with my 100 days of summer challenge to blog about a painful memory.
Well I've actually already wrote about my painful running memory in my 3 month sparkversary blog, so if you are interested, look there.

What I'm actually wanting to blog about is how far I have come and it really hit me while I was doing yard work last weekend.

When I started this journey I could run for 30 seconds. I am up to 3 minute intervals now and building. I have been exercising for 5 months consistently. That is a miracle in itself.

My husband is very tall and very slim. He carries his height in his legs. When we go for a walk, his normal walking pace is way faster than mine, and he normally slows down so that I'm not running to stay beside him. The last few times we've walked, I just said "walk your normal pace" and I was able to sustain his pace (a speedwalk for me) for the entire duration of the walk.

I have been teaching my kids how to skip double dutch and I was able to actually jump in a skip for a while to show them how to do it.

Hubbie and I were gardening a few weeks ago and we were digging, edging, and moving mulch. In the middle of the task, hubbie actually was exhausted and needed to take a drink of water break. I joined him for a break, but I actually had the energy to keep going and could have finished the mulch-schlepping before taking a rest. Usually I am huffing and puffing to keep up with him.

So, I know that I am fitter than I was.

It is not always the numbner on the scale, but rather the strength in the body. emoticon

I think that is one of the best things about exercise - just plain old living is easier. Yeah for you! Wait until you get to shovel some snow this winter. You'll feel like You Own Winter.
