26 Weeks

Monday, May 28, 2012

Coming into my 26th week of pregnancy now and loving it.

I printed some pictures of myself so far in my pregnancy and was un-happy with the muscle I seemed to have lost in my arms. I realized the majority of my workouts I have been doing are cardio only.

So I added back the weighted gloves over the weekend and it didn't feel too hard or like I was overexerting myself. So I am going to keep doing that.

I also began going through some old Oxygen magazines and websites to research what moves I can safely do or what modifications I can do in order to still have a little bit of a weight routine.

I now have a plan of action. I won't be lifting nearly as heavy as I am used to but I wanted to have some sort of weight training as it's important.

I also am beginning to watch my sodium intake a lot more. I will be starting my third trimester in the next week or two and have been warned about how easily pregnant women tend to bloat....everywhere - feet, hands, etc - due to too much sodium.

I actually feel really good about having some goals again. I am beginning to feel more tired so I may have to add back some naps.

But here are my goals for this week:

- add weighted gloves to at least half of my cardio workouts
- add in 2 days of upper body weight training (10 mins each) after my Turbo Fire Low Impact HIIT days
- drink more water
- eat less sodium
- listen to my body and rest when necessary
- watch sugar intake now that I am getting tired again

Be sure you are getting enough sodium. B vitamins help tremendously with anti-bloat/water retention. It's not necessarily the sodium that causes water retention. I didn't watch my sodium at all(however, many normal foods tasted too 'salty' for me so I declined) during my preg. and never had ANY kind of swelling except for the super hot summer days and then it was minimal. Congrats!!

I did weight training throughout my entire pregnancy and had no adverse effects! never even had my abdominals spread apart like some women do during pregnancy. sounds like you've got some good goals. best of luck to you!
