TS Beryl

She made landfall about 12:10 this morning. Brought lots of wind and rain. About22,000 (5%ish of all Jax) without power, we aren't part of that statistic. Power flickered quite a bit, though. All Memorial Day activities and Jazz Festival activities were cancelled. Bathtubs and kitchen sink filled with water, "just in case". Flashlights checked. Charcoal sitting by the door so we can still cook. Thank God nothing was needed!

On a lighter note, our SeaWorld trip went off without a hitch! Mommy was up from about 4 a.m. and did not get to sleep until after midnight. But, everyone had so much fun! My youngest daughter and her friend were inseparable! They looked at the map to "find their way" like Dora, sang "Baby" by Justin Bieber, and held hands the whole time :)

Well, time to go clean the house. A mother's work is never done.

Zoom, I love it down there, used to live in GCS.
Jessi, 7 hours isn't too horrible, 17 you start losing frozen food! A friend of mine had her power off for like 8 hours, then it came back on, only to have a limb fall and take out her house's electricity, then another limb fall and take out the neighborhood! I heard it took until Tuesday morning to get it back.

My daughter was without power in Callahan for 17 hours and my sister without power for 7 on the Southside. Their cable was still off the next day. I had no problems.

Thank you guys :) Tropical Storm Beryl came and wanted to hang around, but is finally trying to make her way up the coast. Yes, it is strange to have already had two named storms this season. The season "officially" starts June 1st. In the past couple of years, though, we have had named storms before and after the season. I guess you never know, in Florida!
My mom always taught me to respect nature, and weather is a part of nature. She also taught me to be prepared, and how to be prepared. I was a rock for one of my friends, whose boyfriend of eight years just left her and their two preschool-aged kids. She called and texted all weekend. If she wasn't over the bridge, I would have had her just come to my house.
We needed the rain, and by the amount of dead (small) limbs in my yard, the wind was needed too! Kept me from either climbing to get them down, or nagging hubby 'til he did it lol!
Superwoman? IDK...I just try to do the best for my family :)

We must be neighbors! Our lights "flickered" some on Sunday night... the rest of the time we were fine. I, too, had "water buckets" ready, and the flashlights STAY ready! Got some much needed rain!

From reading other blog comments I am surmising that TS Beryl is or was some kind of storm or hurricane. So I'm pleased you are OK too.

I'm so glad you were spares. The SeaWorld trip sounded great. Loved hearing about the best buddies. Reminds me of times with my childhood friends.

Thats my girl scout friend always prepared...you rock! Glad to see none of it was needed though and that you still made it to SeaWorld. Some of us would have panicked and then thought it out as it was happening ( could be me) but you were prepared. The only thing I have is candles, bottled water and is currently looking into getting a good generator for emergencies but I'm lucky that I don't live in hurricane area...we just get outtages from heavy t-storms which sucks in the summer in 100 plus weather. But you are Awesome and by your blogs, your job is truly never done but you seem to enjoy it which makes you rock even more! Go Superwoman cause the S is loud, bright and prominent on your chest...I know your family loves you to pieces as they SHOULD! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Glad you were prepared but didn't need the preparations. Seems strange to have already had 2 storms before beginning of Hurricane season.
Have a good week, enjoy your family time.
