At the 8 mile point in my 14.2 mile run Saturday, I decided to take my shirt off and finish the run without a shirt. I have not run without a shirt in a long time because I figured nobody wants to see my fat gut exposed. As soon as my shirt came off, my wife commented that I looked good without it. Not exactly an unbiased opinion. Then I ran past a woman I know casually from a running club who I had passed 3-4 times while wearing a shirt. She looked at me and gave me a "Thumbs Up!".
I almost yelled
I ran the 6K on the Busway yesterday with a goal of running at a pace below 7:45 and not hurting a hamstring. At the start line, I added goals of beating my wife and beating a shirtless guy who looked very much like Eric Clapton. I passed my wife about a half mile into the race, beating her by a little over a minute. And beat Mr. Clapton like Ringo beats the drums. Pace was 7:27 and I never felt even a twinge of hamstring pain.
I completed my 6 week training push with no difficulty. Goal was to run 6 weeks with at least 40 miles and an average of 42. Plus, run some long runs. I averaged 42.45 miles with all weeks above 40 and had runs of 14.2, 16.2, 16.3, 18.6, 20.4 and 20.6. The 16.3 and 18.6 runs included some nasty hills and the 20 milers included temps above 80. I've run 176.6 miles this month beating my goal of 175 and I've got 2 more runs planned before June.
The Pittsburgh Pirates scored 10 runs yesterday and have risen to 1 game below .500. The 19 or so year streak of losing seasons may actually be broken in my lifetime!
