Marketing to kids

So this is my vent of what I saw that pissed me off today.
At one of the larger local grocery stores where I shop, they, like all other large stores, have displays at the front of each check out line. Usually these are cold sodas, chips, magazines, and other little last minute inpulse buys. Well this store does have the candy display, but this one has big banners on the side of each one with the words, in large print, "KIDS CANDY".

Seriously?? So we all know that candy is unfortunately a fact of life, but does it really need to be pushed to kids?? The childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes rates are climbing at alarming rates, should there really be signs that tell kids that these are happy, yummy items designed for them? The contain sugar, high fructose corn syrup, multiple chemicals and artifical colors, some even contain trans-fats. So rally these are good choices for kids?

Well, so is corporate America so desperate for sales that they have to use this kind of marketing? Parents do technically control their kids diet, but kid pressure in the grocery store can be huge, so of course parents will give in. So shared responsibility, yeah kinda, but corporate america put the whole catalyist there to start with.

    I agree with you about the markets catering to the kids, and adults. Goning through the checkout like is almost akin to going throuh another isle. I have watched kids grabbing stuff and most times parents giving into the kid. The message is finally getting to, some, fast food chains about the harm of advertising to kids. But a lot headway is needed. Much of the burden had to be with the parents to show control and not give into the kids. As adults we have to control ourselves in areas of our life and lessons need to be handed down.
