It took awhile before I could write this, but here goes:
Pixie was my beautiful 13 year old pomeranian. We recently lost her. I had her since she was 3. She was a rescue. When I got her, her previous owner was going through a divorce and could no longer afford to keep her. We lived in a small town with no rescue groups per se. One of the groomers in town would help find homes for dogs. I already had other small dogs, and I wasn't in the market for another. However, a friend of mine told me about Pixie. I stopped in to see her just as a breeder (Pixie wasn't spayed then) was trying to talk the groomer into letting him have her.
I knew the groomer quite well, and when I heard this conversation, I spoke up and said, "Gay, isn't that to Pom you were saving for me." Well, that was all she needed to hear, and Pixie became part of our family.
Pixie had a great life, but it's always sad when we lose one of our fur babies. She started with heart problems which were progressing much faster than other dogs I had lost to heart problems. We were on vacation when her liver failed all of a sudden. She had just had a blood test a few days before we left. Her liver wasn't perfect, but not a big issue or so it seemed. I feel it was all the medication she was taking for her heart. The worst part is that I wasn't there to tell her goodbye.
However, the people at the vet all know me and my dogs very well. They told me they were all with her at the end. They even cut a piece of her hair and got a paw print that they gave me. That was so sweet. Pixie will always live in my heart!
Pixie and my other fur babies in happier times.
