Trying to influence the grandkids

To exercise!!!! They wanted to go with me on my walk this morning so I said "sure"....sunscreen...check...
.shorts...check....sneaker
s...check....water... check....I knew they wouldn't make it far but I wanted to encourage them to exercise so off the 4 year old and soon to be six year old went. I was proud of them as they made it a mile with me. I then dropped them off for Papi to watch and did the rest of my 4 miles. 4 miles here in the hot humid weather seems like a lot more work than in my beautiful Mexican weather. I already miss the 75 perfect temps.
Then we spent several hours going through way too many toys and I helped them decide to give a lot away to poorer children. We ended up with two really big tub full of things to give away. I can not believe how much stuff is out there for kids today. It's kinda sad how much there is and how childeren are marketed to while watching tv. I don't let them watch too much TV either as it's all about what they should eat (crap) and junk toys. I know many of you are like me and can name just about all the toys you owned when you were little. We didn't get many toys...we were lucky and played mostly outside with nature. It's sad as parents today are scared to let their kids outside to play by themselves. the world is a different place.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing well.
Sallie

That is great, I love getting my daughter involved in my exercise routine! I also have her in ballet, basketball, swim lessons, cheerleading, T-ball and soccer in the early fall. I was a sedentary child, and I definitely do not want her following in my obese footsteps.

I totally agree with you, since my daughter is an only child... she is spoiled by two sets of grandparents and a great-grandmother! We do encourage her to give to charity once she has outgrown clothes, toys, and shoes. I make her a part of the selection and donation process to make her realize just how blessed she is compared to a lot of children in this world.

Your grandkids are lucky to have such a nice grandma like you! Kids needs all the encouragement they can get these days with all the "bad" influences out there.
TV commercials are the worst when it comes to "food" and the abundance of new toys.

I'm back from my trip but have lots of emails and blogs to catch up on so I won't post my blog just yet, I gained lbs (not telling how many) on my trip, I just said I was on vacation and ate anything and everything I felt like, I figured I'd get back to reality soon enough when I got back so I just enjoyed my trip to the fullest

It certainly is sad....life is certainly much different now than it was we were younger! Good for you for teaching your grandkids about exercising and setting yourself up as a good example. Kids really do learn from us.

Good for you for encouraging the children to walk. I live in a place where there is around 120 homes out side of my town, you rarely see a child outside playing . They are in the house on there computer's playing games. I blame the parents, for allowing that & not taking them out side to play or go for long walks.Enjoy your time the humidity was sure high here today in Pa. I had to take my allergy medication. My aunt came to visit for a month from Florida she left today & I already miss her.Enjoy your visit

I enjoy watching the 2 kids that live across the street from us play outside. They both are climbing trees and they have a make shift zip line. A week ago when it was pretty warm the boy was sitting under a trey playing his harmonica. Those are things I remember from childhood.

How nice that you included them on your walk. It's always fun to walk with little people ans they are so much closer to the ground and see a whole different world than us taller people. Glad you are having a good time Sallie.

Sounds like you are passing on some healthy ideas to your grandkids - so glad they walked with you for a mile! That's a lot so good for them!
