It's Friday, all right.

Friday, May 25, 2012

Yesterday morning I got up early and got my inside and outside chores done as soon as possible. My son had to be at work at noon and my husband's boss was nice enough to let him off a half day so we could take Blocker to Webster Groves Animal Hospital west of St. Louis, Missouri. We left at noon and hubby drove first in the rural part of the trip and I took over when we got to the metroeast area. We ended up having to call the vet and tell him we would be late as traffic was stopped all the way from Missouri into Illinois for some unknown reason. I'm petrified of bridges and we were stopped on it and barely crawling. I was so mad I didn't even notice I was afraid. We were 20 minutes late. The vet examined Blocker and she needed surgery. Her teeth had cut into her cheeks. So hubby and I waited until she was done and left there at 3:30 P.M. It was a nightmare. There was a wreck that had traffic backed up for several miles and it took us an hour to get through St. Louis. I was so glad to see Illinois and so glad I don't live in a big city. I don't want to waste my life and money sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. This life is not for me. Hubby was even more turned off and stated how problems like this made people even question if they would venture into the city to enjoy the really great things that are there like the art museum, science center, zoo, botanical garden, etc. Yesterday I had to agree.

When we reached the Metroeast area we went to Petsmart but they still had no chinchilla food. We got food at Culvers and ate in the car as we didn't want to leave Blocker. We went to Wal-mart looking for some grave cones and they didn't have any. Hubby took over driving again. We stopped in a tiny town in a rural area on the way home and got a Blizzard and found the cones I wanted at their Dollar General. We got home around dark. By that point we both were in terrible pain from being in a car too long. My son arrived home from work soon after.

Today was one of the rare times lately no one had to work so we could all sleep in. It was nice. We got up and I fixed breakfast.

Hubby was cranky as he was trying to resolve a banking problem with the estate - transferring funds from one bank to another which sounds easy but isn't in estates. He finally got it accomplished after being on the phone off and on all day and having to run to town to both banks at the last minute.

I have seen 3 turtles in the yard in the last 24 hours. One was by the driveway. One was eating a dead possum by the compost pile - ick. One was eating cantaloupe and strawberries I left by the tree. The hummers are really going through the sugar water right now. I saw a chickadee feeding a baby on the feeder today.

Hubby and I got the flowers ready to decorate the graves with. We do as much work as we can ahead of time. It took us a couple of hours but we got it done. I'm not sure when we will go of the next 3 days but they are all going to be in the mid 90s. Ugh.

Blocker is still in pain and not feeling well but she is eating better. I am giving her lots of treats - whatever she wants and will eat.

Happy to read that Blocker is on the mend. Hoping Blocker feels better quickly. The big city thing is not for me either. Did it when I was in my early 20's. That was enough!

Wow I DO live in a "big" city and I never get bumper to bumper traffic- at least not to the same extend as you described. Hope you both feel better soon.

Welcome to my world. I make a 80 min drive to work, and then 80 min drive back home each day. I hate it, but I do not want to move so I'll put up with it for awhile.

A carnivore turtle! Amazing.

Hope Blocker and you are feeling better today!

Hope Blocker continues to improve. I know what you mean about driving in city traffic. I always hate it when we are in Atlanta visiting my son. Too much wasted time in bumper to bumper traffic...yuk!

It sounds like Blocker is on the mend; hooray!

We've got a mixed bag of weather here for the weekend. Since we *just* got back from fabulous weather whilst on vacation, I'm not going to complain!

Hope Blocker is doing better today.

We used to do the Memorial flowers at the cemetery, but now we live 1500 miles sway. I assume the graves go naked - sad.

Love reading about the many creatures near your home (even the turtle, eating the dead possum!).
I hope you have a quiet, uneventful holiday weekend.

Hope blocker is feeling better :-( and you guys are too!

I know all about big city traffic....living in Austin...we get lots of traffic around these parts. Fortunately I know a few back roads so it doesn't make living too bad! My hubs lives only 30 minutes from work but it takes him over an hour to get home due to 5:00-6:00 traffic.

I know just how you feel too, with all that chaotic traffic. Oh, it tends to get my nerves frazzled too, especially how fast those locals take the curves, in and out of cars, racing along as if they own the place! Errr, I'm always so glad to get back home in the sticks too! Yippee! So happy that Blocker's getting a wee better and will continue to, with such good caretakers! Take some time for yourselves now. Relax if you can! Happy Memorial week-end and Day!

I'm thinking about going out to cut flowers for tomorrow, but then decided to just get up early and do it all at once. I only have 12 vases, so that's limiting. There are 6 graves that are what I must do, family and neighbors. The rest can be for friends. I usually cover vegetable cans with foil, but dd thinks it's too tacky.

Glad Blocker is better, take care of yourselves, too.

Love your blogs. Though I am a big city girl, born and bred. All my relatives and 95% of my friends are like you concerning rural living - which drives me batty.

Glad you got Blocker's issues resolved.

I know just how you feel about city traffic. When I've had to go to the Bay Area to see family, driving is absolutely terrifying and I've felt like kissing the ground when I got back over the Oregon border. San Francisco has a lot going for it but it isn't worth losing my life over!
I'm glad the vet could fix Little Blockers teeth problems. She has good fur baby parents to brave the city traffic for her!

One thing we don't have around our house are turtles, but I think they're fascinating. (Eating a possum?!)
I hope you and Little Blocker are feeling a lot more comfortable tomorrow.
Oh, and I finally lost 2 pounds! Yay!
