Yesterday morning I got up early and got my inside and outside chores done as soon as possible. My son had to be at work at noon and my husband's boss was nice enough to let him off a half day so we could take Blocker to Webster Groves Animal Hospital west of St. Louis, Missouri. We left at noon and hubby drove first in the rural part of the trip and I took over when we got to the metroeast area. We ended up having to call the vet and tell him we would be late as traffic was stopped all the way from Missouri into Illinois for some unknown reason. I'm petrified of bridges and we were stopped on it and barely crawling. I was so mad I didn't even notice I was afraid. We were 20 minutes late. The vet examined Blocker and she needed surgery. Her teeth had cut into her cheeks. So hubby and I waited until she was done and left there at 3:30 P.M. It was a nightmare. There was a wreck that had traffic backed up for several miles and it took us an hour to get through St. Louis. I was so glad to see Illinois and so glad I don't live in a big city. I don't want to waste my life and money sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. This life is not for me. Hubby was even more turned off and stated how problems like this made people even question if they would venture into the city to enjoy the really great things that are there like the art museum, science center, zoo, botanical garden, etc. Yesterday I had to agree.
When we reached the Metroeast area we went to Petsmart but they still had no chinchilla food. We got food at Culvers and ate in the car as we didn't want to leave Blocker. We went to Wal-mart looking for some grave cones and they didn't have any. Hubby took over driving again. We stopped in a tiny town in a rural area on the way home and got a Blizzard and found the cones I wanted at their Dollar General. We got home around dark. By that point we both were in terrible pain from being in a car too long. My son arrived home from work soon after.
Today was one of the rare times lately no one had to work so we could all sleep in. It was nice. We got up and I fixed breakfast.
Hubby was cranky as he was trying to resolve a banking problem with the estate - transferring funds from one bank to another which sounds easy but isn't in estates. He finally got it accomplished after being on the phone off and on all day and having to run to town to both banks at the last minute.
I have seen 3 turtles in the yard in the last 24 hours. One was by the driveway. One was eating a dead possum by the compost pile - ick. One was eating cantaloupe and strawberries I left by the tree. The hummers are really going through the sugar water right now. I saw a chickadee feeding a baby on the feeder today.
Hubby and I got the flowers ready to decorate the graves with. We do as much work as we can ahead of time. It took us a couple of hours but we got it done. I'm not sure when we will go of the next 3 days but they are all going to be in the mid 90s. Ugh.
Blocker is still in pain and not feeling well but she is eating better. I am giving her lots of treats - whatever she wants and will eat.
