Week 4 weigh in-- UGH.

Hey!!

I worked my butt of this week and didn't lose a pound. It turns out I am not eating near enough calories. So this week I am tracking everything I eat to make sure I meet at least my minimum calorie recommendation.

I will copy and paste what I wrote in the Done Girls Forums.

"Hello Ladies!

So I haven't been tracking my calories and my weight loss has stalled. So I went back and figured my calories and it turns out most days I am barely breaking 1,000 calories and some days not even making it to 1,000. So today I have started tracking my calories to make sure I am eating enough to go along with my exercise.

My questions are as follows..

Have any of you had this problem before? After you started eating enough calories how long did it take for you to start losing weight again? Because you started eating more did you gain a little more weight for the first few days?

Hey man -- I can't look at this as only having lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks. I have to look at this as WOW I LOST 11 LBS !!!!

I am not making any excuses but my hypothyroidism makes it really hard for me to lose weight. I have to be happy with every pound I drop. I have to be happy even if I stay the same and don't gain in a week.

HERE'S TO THE START OF MONTH 2 FOR ME!!!

280's here i come!!

I know 11 pounds sounds great.. but 8 of that was the first week. I was just discouraged for only losing 3 pounds total from the other 3 weeks.

    YES! For years people have laughed at me! They were sure I was sneaking food! How could anyone eat so little and be 257 pounds?

I had an awful time getting my calories down when I first started. My answer to that problem WAS ~ I start drinking! Yes! That is right drinking! I started finishing out my calories with milk and juice. I was tracking it all including the carbohydrates, being careful to adjust it so the numbers were aligning! Eventually, that tracking caused those drinks to turn into protein shakes! I was almost always low in protein and high in fat.

Now the healthy balance is coming together. My diet isn't low fat or low carbohydrates. It is balanced. As time has passed my exercise has increased along with my appetite. However, about 1/3 of my calories is still comprised of yogurt protein shakes with blended fruit!

Now I just keep monitoring the number of calories I need and adjust accordingly. Good luck ..Check out the recipe finder on Sparks! There are some neat shakes. I even add my MiraLax to mine! emoticon

    11 pounds is great!! I really like how you are keeping a positive attitude, I really find tat it's so very important to stay positive to keep my motivation up.

    11 lbs in a month is awesome! Are you on medication for your hypothyroidism? Since I started taking medication I feel tons better! I don't know if it's helping me lose weight or not because I started eating healthier at the same time I started taking it.

A couple of times when my weight has been "stuck" for a couple weeks I have eaten more for a few days and it seems to work.

I just let SP set my calorie goals. If you just put in how many calories you burn a week and your weight loss goals it will give you how much to eat. Right now mine is at 1500-1900. Some days I have a hard time getting 1500 but then some days I'm up at 1900 easily. I have been averaging 1600-1700 since I started.

    11 lbs in a month is HUGE!!!! That's more than two pounds a week, which is a high and healthy level to be losing each week when you're in the "obese" category, which I certainly am, too. But.. as much as I'm trying, I usually lose 5-7 lbs a month.

it is better to hit your minimum on the calorie range each day, maybe to get one day higher (high end) or two a week.. and try to get higher calorie burn - at least 400 to 1000 calories burned.. I know you can go higher in burn, but think you may have to increase caloric intake if you do.

When I've been ill and not met my minimum calories and I get stuck (this is rare, because now I know to make sure to hit 1200 cal. if at all possible, even with stomach flu).. but if I get back to middle of the calorie range the next day it takes about 2 days to re-set my body to losing weight then. Take in more protein and fiber (fruit/veg/ lean protein) and then the weight will start coming off again.
