So I'm moving along just fine. I lost a few pounds. I'm feeling better. The skin's looking better. I'm motivated. Then...road trip. What could possibly interrupt everything I have been working on but a road trip. And not just one but two back-to-back. Time to retrieve the girls from school. College is out - that time of year that you look forward to and dread at the same time. You want to see your maturing children but can't wait until it's time to send them back. The first trip was a small one, the school was only 3 hours away. Easy. I prepared a travel snack pack wisely - fruit, yogurt, water, etc. - you know, the healthy stuff. Our first stop threw me off track immediately - DAIRY QUEEN's BLIZZARD. Although I should have passed on it I really wanted it and went for it; albeit a small one. Return trip - salad and chicken nuggets, not too bad. The second trip was to Atlanta (why did she have to go so far away). Again, I packed wisely for the first 200 miles. I was doing okay until we arrived somewhere in Kentucky. I gave in and had Taco Bell. That was the beginning. From there it was easy to slide back to some of the old eating habits. Fortunately, I didn't completely chuck it all, there were some spark-inspired moments when my brain came back to me. For example, in Atlanta I selected the baked salmon over the fried fish and in Tennessee I chose the sweet potato fries over regular fries. However, the damage was done. It took a week to return to some type of order and not just because two young adults returned home for summer break. Anyway, I'm glad it's over, for now. I didn't stray too far so I feel good about keeping some restraint. The worst offender, by far, was the DQ Blizzard and I only had a small serving whereas in years past I would have had a large. So I celebrate my wins where I can take them and move on to my next winning moment. On a lighter note, my girls are wonderful workout buddies and I will miss them all over again at summer's end.
