Trying Something New (256.8)

Thursday, May 24, 2012

I see I am down four pounds from my last weigh-in on May 4, 2012. That is such good news! As anyone who reads my updates knows, I have been exercising like the dickens. In fact, I am looking forward to water aerobics in the gym's warm therapy pool this evening.

The new thing I am trying is simply eating when I am hungry and stopping when I am full.

That's it but there is more to the program and I am still learning. I have a hard time trusting myself but everything so far feels so right. I ate calmly this week and didn't feel any of the usual feelings of sadness, deprivation, or rebellion. Could it possibly work?

Yes, it can work - though be aware that the feeling of being full takes a while to get from your stomach to your brain. In fact, some plans I've seen say to stop when you're no longer feeling hungry - rather than waiting until you feel full. If you get hungry later, then you can eat some more at that point.

The other thing to watch for are the kinds of foods that don't properly trigger feeling full. For the number of calories it contains, for example, few people stop drinking soda because they feel full.

It sounds like it's working already! I think when you can eat what you want and be in control you've got a plan that can work for a lifetime.
