Vacation Motivation, Favorite Veggies, and the End of Fifty Shades

Thursday, May 24, 2012

I still haven't gone to the gym or worked out since last Friday. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not on my normal routine and I'm actually SHOCKED that I have stayed on track with food since I've been home almost all day, every day. You win some, you lose some, right? It could be a lot worse. I'll get back to the gym next week. Once I'm in Minnesota there is a gym right at my hotel so that will be even more seamless for me. I'm excited!

What I'm also excited for in Minnesota is access to Whole Foods and a $40 per diem for food. I know what fruits I like, but I don't know a ton about vegetables. My parents never made me eat them when I was a kid, so I really only know the standards. What does everyone like to eat for veggies? How do you prepare them? I'm looking forward to experimenting because it's not MY money that I'm spending so I don't feel bad if I try something and have to throw it out because I don't like it.

I'm hoping that when I finish Fifty Shades I can get some housework and laundry done. I don't like book three as much as I liked the other two and I hear the ending is nothing to be desired. I think I will finish it today, which is a good thing since I need to clean my apartment, do laundry, and go camping shopping. I love that I saved all my errands until Friday. I'm leaving for up nort Saturday. My parents built a Tiki Hut up there:

I can't wait to get out there and RELAX!

I've been hearing more and more (no one kill me lol) that exercise isn't important in losing weight. Wow that sounds awful. In that Weight Of The Nation series on HBO they said that of course we should exercise for 23892038 different reasons, but when it comes to weight loss that it was mainly just the diet that did it. But they said it was a huge factor in maintaining the weight loss when you get there. Who knows if that's true. I always figured that the more I added in exercise the quicker it'd come off. I don't know what's right or wrong at all, but just thought it was a weird thing for them to say. Either way you got your food down and to me that is the hardest part, so congrats on that. :) I'm sure you'll be back in action in no time.

The tiki hut is so cute, and that is so awesome you are using your vacation to experiment with healthy eating. You are awesome! :D

i like green smoothies. i prefer fruits do making a smoothie - with banana, raw or frozen (no sugar added) strawberries and then some greens like spinach, or green leaf lettuce. i use frozen fruit instead of ice for a thicker drink.
i like almost all fruits so that is never an issue
in the summer i enjoy getting fresh kohlrabi ($1.00 for 3) from the farmers market.

Bell peppers are awesome raw- and the different colors sometimes taste a little different. baby carrots are easy (no cleaning neccesary)

frozen veggies are cheap. i add them to slow cooker meals. some of them are microwaveable for an easy snack or side dish. i like frozen broccoli with alfrado sauce, less carbs/calories then adding the pasta.

Finishing book two now, aside from it being poorly written and the fact she uses the same words 50x's, the story itself is something that I love. So I'm hoping the last book at least keeps me interested.
