Chocolate for Breakfast

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

I do like oatmeal, especially during the winter. It is just so darn healthy and has that stick-to-your-ribs thing going for it. But the mornings are getting warmer, and hot oatmeal is just not as appealing to me. Luckily for me, I came across a recipe on Pinterest (love that site!!) that was originally posted on Oh My Veggies website (a website for vegetarian food). It is a breakfast shake that has oatmeal, almond milk, banana, and chocolate. Talk about a super-food powerhouse! It is cold and perfect for warmer weather breakfasts. I had it this morning, and it is my new favorite. Just wanted to share!

Here is the website. Do check it out when you have time. It looks like it is a great source for healthy recipes.

Mexican Chocolate Breakfast Shake
1/2 c. old-fashioned oats
1 c. almond, soy, or coconut milk (I really like using the new Blue Diamond almond/coconut milk blend)
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
agave nectar, honey, maple syrup or other sweetener to taste (I use a tablespoon)
1 small banana, cut into pieces and frozen overnight in a freezer bag

Combine oats, milk, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and sweetener in a resealable bowl. Stir together and refrigerate overnight.
Add banana and oat mixture to food processor or blender and process until smooth and well-combined. If shake is too thick, add more milk for a thinner consistency.

ADDED NOTE: I used the SP recipe generator for the recipe ingredients as listed (opting for .5 Tablespoon honey as the sweetener). The recipe is for one serving, 327 calories, 8g protein, 7 g fat (no cholesterol), 64 g carb. I do hope this information helps.

Thank you for the link to the site. I'm not much for drinking my meals, but this one sounds delicious. I might just try it.

Do you know the nutrition value per one serving, and also the number of servings in this recipe?

Can you please post the recipe? I would love to make it.

Thank you in advance
