Seriously!!

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

I went to see my ortho pedic surgeon 3 weeks after my knee replacement. He wants me to exercise my knee for one hour out of every two. Really really? It is extremely painful no matter what position it is in 6-7 hours of exercising it a day will be living hell. I tried it this afternoon after my appointment and spent the hour I between sessions crying on and off from the pain and from the feeling of being totally overwhelmed. But I know it will get better a nd easier a little each day but right this second I am totally overwhelmed by it all.

Hi, Pat. Dropping by to see how you are. At least the surgery is behind you now. One hour out of two does sound painful. So many people don't do therapy as instructed, maybe those instructions were overkill? I think I'd call and ask what is essential at this point. Prayers for a smooth and quick recovery.

Sounds like a lot of exercise (and pain). Do you have a physical therapist? After my TKR three months ago my doctor left my exercises up to my PT. I was given a set of exercises to do (3 sets 3 x's a day). Didn't matter if I did all exercises at once as long as each exercise was done 3 x's. There was one that he insisted I do hourly - sit in my glider with feet flat on floor and simply glide back and forth trying to go back little more each time. Just remember it does get easier. emoticon

What type of exercising is your Dr. wanting you to do hourly???? I had a set of exercises to do three times/day. It took me approximately 1/2 hr. to get through them. Yes, they were difficult @ the beginning and got easier. BUT the focus was on MOVING hourly . . . that meant walking at least 5 minutes/hr. or as close to that as could be managed. For me, that wasn't too challenging, as I was a walker anyway (still am!)

What does your physical therapist say????

It is too bad these doctors can't experience the pain we feel before they say things like that. I had one tell me he wouldn't do a hip replacement because I was too young and I just needed to exercise and lose weight. I couldn't move without extreme pain and I wondered how I would do that if I couldn't move! Sometimes they just have no empathy or common sense.

Oh my, that sounds terrible. I'm sorry for your pain, I can't imagine what you must be going through. All I can say is, know we are all behind you. I hope you get better soon. Best of luck to you.
