*still* a runner

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

it's been three weeks - the trip, jet lag, and then my meds and heart rate decided they did not get along last week. at worst, i thought my running days might be over. but jet lag is long past, and it seems we got the meds settled out, and today, watching my heart rate, i ran. and ran. and ran. well, i call it running, though DH could walk right next to me. i am what you call a slow runner. not only did it not feel like i had taken a 3-week hiatus since the last run, it felt better than most runs in recent times. in all, i ran about 3.7 miles of a 5 mile session. and felt fine through the whole thing.

i've tried a couple of smoothies since my first attempt - one with berries, banana and soy milk and spinach and white beans that sat very nicely, and another with apple, banana, spinach and water - that one did not sit as well, i think because it had no protein and when it wore off i didn't feel right. no time yesterday, will try another for today's snack.

my meal plan does not want to get planned. so far this week:

african peanut soup from Quick and Easy Vegan Celebrations:

es.html

used the vitamix for it both to cut up the veggies and to blend the soup in the end, worked nicely.

and red lentil balls:

served with the vegan tzatsiki sauce and tonight with this:

today, a tofu stir fry with bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms and brown rice (own throw together recipe).

and of course salads everywhere, the huger the better.

i don't seem to be doing a better job on the planning - especially with a last minute decision to eat dinner at a restaurant yesterday. pleased with my choices - asian salad with dressing on the side. one glass of wine.

and weight is back to my initial goal of 111. emoticon

Way to go with the running. (I think the whole "if you're going too slow, you're not running" is a bunch of nonsense. The way the body moves defines walk, jog, and run to me.)

I might have to look into the whole spinach in a smoothie concept. Wonder if my baby blender could handle it.
