I was all responsible and got a salad last night (go me!) from Panera. Since no good deed goes unpunished, I noticed a half hour later that my stomach felt awful. I tried to figure out if I'd accidentally eaten anything weird, but I hadn't even had any dairy with that salad so I couldn't figure it out. Finally after the horrid stomach cramps started, I realized I must have eaten something with artificial sweetener in it. Sure enough I looked up the Panera ingredients, and the next to last ingredient was some derivative of Stevia.
So of course, I had to eat soup and crackers to settle my stomach, which derailed my goal of hitting the lower limit of my calorie goals. My stomach still hurts!
In conclusion: Dear every restaurant and food manufacturer: For the love of god, stop sneaking in artificial sweeteners to every food under the sun. I'm a careful label reader, but I'm tired of you sneaking this stuff past me. There is zero reason to add tiny amounts of this crap to foods that don't need it! >:\
