Day 9 - The Dehydrator is On

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

So today has been most excellent give or take me waking up at around 2.30am and not being able to get back to sleep due to hot flushes. When the pounds start to fall off it creates a bit of havoc with my hormones. Will no doubt sleep like a dog tonight.

So I have sliced up my courgettes (zucchini), one lot done in long slices (which was difficult as the courgette is too soft for slicing along the length) and two lots in rounds. They are on the dehydrator as I type. One thing I can say if I don't use it for food I can use it as a hand warmer haha! Although to be honest I can see so many possibilities for storage. I didn't put any oil or flavour - thought I would try them bare and see what they turn out like.

The plan had been to put some whole beets in the slow cooker over night for peeling tomorrow but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I sure am hoping that the dehydrator enables me to eat more veg. I've never been big on vegetables but am getting there and this should help.

Right, a cup of decaf and an orange await. Thanks all emoticon

I am glad you are having fun with your dehydrator!
I love veggie chips. Things dry quicker when they are thinner, so all you have to do is find the thickness you prrefer for using the things you dehydrate

some things I do thicker if I am planning them for a specific dish

have fun discovering!

A friend of mine makes dried kale chips, and they are wonderful! Good luck with your dehydrator!

I am looking forward to hearing how your veggie crisps come out - if they are to your taste buds liking. I believe you did right not to add anything the first time making the crisps. You can experiment with flavorings later.

This gal has always enjoy her veggies. Our Mom insisted that we eat at least one tablespoon of everything on offer at all meals. She wanted us to learn to like what was good for us. The only thing I just plain & simply wouldn't eat was all meats except for hotdogs, hamburgars, & liver (which had to be served with onions). Yes, you might say that Ima was a strange child! emoticon

Like you, I didn't sleep at all well last night. I don't know what was going on with that. Then when I did fall asleep, I was awakened in the night by my feet feeling so cold. I finally got up & put a pair of Winter socks on - no more cold feet. Still, I have been zonked all day & am already looking forward to drifting off to dreamland tonight.

My brothers used to think I was so lucky because I got to have a hamburgar when we went out to eat as a family & they had to have the roast beef or chicken. I have since told them that they should have learned to be as stubborn as I. emoticon Actually, I was very easy going - it was just that for some reason the thought of eating meat gagged me. Thankfully, eventually I got over that response to beef & chicken.

Now do you know more about Ima than you care to? emoticon

Enjoy learning all you can that will help you along your journey path.

God bless!

Ima

I have a dehydrator and use it all the time. May I recommend "The Dehydrator Bible". It has great ideas, recipes and I have never had any problems with it's information! I even made potpourri for Christmas presents. I use dehydrated oranges in my trash to keep it from being smelly in the summer. Good Luck and Happy Eating!
