Victory on Victoria Day

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

I claim victory over the frigid waters of our lake on this Victoria Day. As mentioned in my last blog, my grandfather's tradition for the 30-odd years that he lived on this property was to swim daily beginning on Victoria Day Weekend and continuing till his birthday on September 9. Today I braved the waters which just two and a half weeks ago were frozen. I waded in, I did not dive in as he used to do, and I didn't swim a stroke, just ducked my body completely underwater and waded out again as quickly as I could. DD recorded the event in photos, some of which I've posted to my SparkPage.

Now, do I intend to make this a daily event? No. It's a sufficient nod to family tradition to make sure I observe the beginning and end dates of GF's swimming season without *necessarily* succumbing to the dubious pleasures of a daily swim for another month or so.

WOW - you are brave indeed, the fact that you completely submermsed your self, my tender toes would take one little dip and would be back in wool socks and slippers... Bravo to you!!!

When it starts getting really hot I'm sure you'll find the lake more inviting.

I think it's great, Ken, it seems so many traditions these days simply get tossed to the side, out of apathy, or for some other poor reason. It makes me smile inside when I see the occasional tradition upheld. emoticon
