Something amazing has happened to me since starting Spark People. I have been drinking water faithfully for a long time, I have yo-yo'd with every dumb diet known to man. I love to bake and cook, but I was often too tired to make dinner--- and I loved to eat goodies. A pack of candy and some cookies or pastry for my reward for enduring a grocery shopping trip. Some bagels, cookies, or cake for breakfast. Candy for snack. Lunch and Dinner were processed foods or take out. Few vegetables, only iceberg lettuce, carrots, corn and peas. Dessert, oh, how cake with icing a mile high called my name. I was too tired to function in the afternoon, every afternoon. I'd sit down to read or sit down to watch a movie and go off to sleep...not because I was sleep deprived, but, because I had no foods giving me energy or fuel. too high in sugar, carbs and fat. And, looking back, no matter how many calories I was consuming, I never felt satisfied and rummaged thru the pantry or refrigerator for more goodies -- because what I was consuming was empty calories, with no redeeming value like soda.
BUT: I am finally awake. I am thinking through every morsel that enters my mouth. I am making my calories count, eating simple foods and many more vegetables. I've drastically reduced my intake of white sugar and white flour to almost none. I actually am craving things like spinach and squash! I feel satisfied with my meals and snacks and am experiencing 'hunger' in an appropriate way now--- with a rumbling tummy and voila, I get to eat again... GOOD FUEL! I wake up (easily) thinking about what I'm going to do in my day and what delicious meals I will have, not about a donut or Oreos!
Reflecting on my last couple weeks, I'm amazed at how much better I feel. Physically and emotionally. I feel more balanced and HAPPIER!
--I am now able to walk without my cane when I get up in the morning! The inflammation (brought on by my weight and my very poor diet choices) is nearly 98 o/o gone. My ankles are not swollen!
--I am now able to get through the entire day without a NAP!!!!
It's amazing what having an extra hour OR 3 during the day makes to what can be accomplished!!! I've caught up on mending and sewing projects, I've planted a hummingbird/butterfly garden, laundry is caught up, I took apart an antique chair to re-do the seat, I've read some books that I had been wanting to read. Decorative painting projects. Projects, other than routine cleaning around the house are getting done, like rearranging cupboards, the pantry, etc. Best of all, I want to do more now, because I really 'feel' like it, not because I have to or because it's a necessity! I have the energy now!
Best of all, I am moving again! I am taking the dogs for short walks. I am not worried about finding a close parking spot at stores. My feet don't hurt, my ankles don't either! I am able to keep moving all day without having to sit!
Today, I wore a top and pants one size smaller than I wore when I started Spark People -- and they fit properly not tight!!!! I have a long journey to go, but, I am celebrating this!
Oh, yes. I am awake! Feeling better and being able to move has my full attention!!!!!
