WOW! Cleveland "Heat" Marathon 2012

Monday, May 21, 2012

Well my friends... not to be a dissappointment but I dropped to the Half Marathon yesterday when I was trying to attempt my first Full. The heat here in Cleveland (86) was brutal for this Marathon. I decided at mile 11.5 to call it a run for myself and complete the Half and not attempt to go on for the full. My legs started to cramp along with my stomach (the bigger issue). I was well trained for it but I have only been running for 2 years and only road racing for a year and a half. This was my first experience in extreme heat and lets just say.... it did NOT like me or my body did not like it. At least now, I take this as another lesson learned... I can do a Half marathon under just about any! Full Marathon... I'll get you one of these days!!

Good choice. A half is an amazing distance to do in the heat anyway, let alone a marathon. Perhaps you could go for it again in the cooler weather. x

I don't blame you! I was running that half too, and I felt for anyone who was attempting the full! Especially in the "spring" before anyone is conditioned for that heat! Way to run smart. There will be more marathons!!

PJ and Florida Thank you!! I'm already, just a day later, contemplating Columbus (October) as being my next attempt at the Full.. it's late October so it "should" be! Of course with my luck it could be a snow storm..LOL!

Congrats on your run. A Half marathon in 86 F is very impressive. Also impressed that you *know* when to say when! You are lapping everyone that stayed on the couch :-) emoticon

You totally did the right thing. It's so smart to listen to your body. I'm impressed by anyone who can run more than 11 miles. You'll get that marathon some day. Keep up the good work.
