Family Crisis

I write this article with a grave concern upon my heart.

Yesterday afternoon, I received a call from my one and only sister. She was hysterical. Her husband had been involved in a motorcycle accident and had been air-lifted to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, TN.

Currently, the prognosis is grime. He has no feeling below the waist. His pelvis is crushed, one knee broken, one elbow broken, one shoulder dislocated, and his lungs are collapsed. The front and back pelvic ligament has been severed. He has received fifteen units of blood, and now, she is told that it may be WEEKS before they can do a MRI! At this time, she has no idea of the internal injuries he has suffered.

My brother-in-law is a carpenter by trade...and an EXCELLENT cabinet maker. Both their sons work with their Dad, and thus, the livilhood of all are in jeopardy. Though my nephews are good carpenters, I do not know that they can "run" the business as required. One is married, the other is not. Yes, they are "grown"...ages thirty-two and twenty-six, but all they have ever done is WORK! My sister is a real estate agent, thus is basically self-employed. Therefore, we are not looking at paid time off. Though she has generally done quite well in the business, recent economic issues have made life somewhat more difficult.

In addition to this, my sister is the primary caregiver of my elderly parents. Needless to say, they are extremely upset. Of course, I am "stepping in" to assist in every way possible, but my sister in the power-of-attorney for them presently.

I am asking that each of you lift them in prayer as they face the uncertainty that surrounds them at this time. Thanks you in advance for your prayers.

Prayers are going up for your BIL and the family! Also, it's interesting how things like this push us to do more than we thought we could. I'm thinking particularly of the two nephews you speak about. One of them or maybe both may very well be able to carry the business well enough, even if not completely. Of course families often 'come together' more in a situation like this, helping where help is needed, and even giving more than is needed. I pray that God's will be done in all of it.

    Dear Lord,

Thank you for giving your Son to us. Lord I ask you to be with this family, comfort them as they lean on You during this traumatic time. I submit this family to Your care, may Your will be done in the healing of this man. Comfort the family as they wait (which is very hard to do) and let them know Your will in this time of their great need. Watch over the elderly parents as they struggle to understand all of this. Comfort, guide, and lead them for we know that You are with us at all times.

In Jesus' precious name I pray......Amen
