My husband and I like to walk and here in NW Iowa we have many trails that we can choose from. Today we went out of town north and this trail goes past fields and water areas. We were almost to our turn around point and on the side of the trail was a huge turtle-1/2 on the trail and 1/2 on the grassy area. She had dug a hole and we think she was laying her eggs. We didn't know what else she could have been doing. She didn't look like she was stuck and couldn't move. Tonight we are going to go back to that location and see if she's still there. Next we saw two geese with their 5 babies on the trail and heading to the little pond. It was fun watching them keep their flock together and protect them against "us". We also saw a yellow bird with some black and we knew it wasn't a goldfinch. I guess we are going to have to get a book about Iowa birds. Last fall we removed all the old bluebird houses and put new ones up. My husband made more than 15 houses for the trails we walk.
So for us a walk is more than the exercise we are getting, it's enjoying nature.
