Walk on Mount Belleview

Saturday, May 19, 2012

My sister has been asking me to go walk at Mount Belleview with her. But I've been avoiding it because of that little word "mount". It's not a big mountain, but with all the extra weight I'm carrying, it's a challenge. Just last March, I could barely walk to the neighbor's house near my parents' house, just a few hundred feet away. And that nutty sister of mine wants me to climb a small mountain?! emoticon

Well, today she persuaded me to try it. It was pretty slow going.

I remember a couple years ago when Mount Bellevue had become one of our *routine* walks, barely challenging at all. How could I let myself lose so much hard-earned ground as far as my health and fitness are concerned? emoticon

This is a little side path we've never taken. We'd like to go see where it goes.

I ended my day with a lovely visit at my parents. I'm blessed to still have both my parents who are in their mid eighties. My sister (walking buddy) lives with them, which is why they've been able to stay in their own home until now.

Wow! I just love a rustic trail like that! This brings back memories of when Mom and I did a road trip to BC and hiked trails like that. She thinks she is too old now, but with all the fitness classes and hard work gardening and cleaning house and 10 km a day trail walking she does, I bet she could hike circles around most people! She will be 76 in August and has two artificial hips..
Your wonderful sister is turning out to be a great fitness buddy for you! Good for you taking it on! Sure you have to start at the beginning (been there, done that SOO many times), but keep your eye on the prize -that you know you can do it, and that eventually it will get easier and then you will be wondering what on earth were you so worried about! You can do this! You can reclaim your life back!
Go Rej, Go!!

What a beautiful walk! Looks pretty steep in places - and you did it! Amazing that you have progressed so much since last March - good for you.

And yes, you are lucky to still have your parents - and to have that wonderful sister (She sure sounds she is.)

Keep sharing those hikes!
