About 2 weeks ago, I got on the scale, and lo and behold, it had moved down a few notches. I was surprised, because I was no longer obsessing about every bite I ate, every step I took, or fastidiously recording as I should have.
Then it hit me - I had changed enough of my habits, for long enough, to allow the weight to fall off naturally. When I ate the chicken salad and left the croissant on the plate, it wasn't because I didn't want it, it was because I saw the brownie for dessert and made a decision to swap out the croissant for the brownie. I think I may have saved on the calories there.
Instead of killing myself on my schedule to ensure I put every ounce of exercise in, I chose to walk more places, sit less, move around. Missed yoga because I had to pick up my daughter? Well, we could walk around the block together.
I still have about 7 pounds to go to reach my ultimate weight goal, but I made an amazing discovery. I put on "the pants". You know, the one pair that you know you used to fit into? When I first started, I couldn't even get them up my leg. Now, there they were, a bit tight, but I wore them to work for the first time in 3 years. That's my incentive now - The Pants!
