Miss Read

Friday, May 18, 2012

I was home with a bad cold yesterday and had a chance to read my Mother's Day gift sent to me by my beloved mother. It was Miss Read's last book "A Peaceful Retirement" and an article about her passing. I thoroughly enjoyed this short novel and felt better for having read it.

If you have not read any of Miss Read's 30 novels, and if you enjoy lovely simple stories of England, then go to the library and look for this author. I believe "Village Diary" was her first book...I have not yet read all 30 stories but I have enjoyed every one that I have been able to find.

In this day of "Mob Wives" and "Survivor Season 92", Miss Read's tales of England in the last century are a breath of fresh and healing air.

Hadn't heard of this author, but I'm a big reader so always enjoy branching out into new territory. Really appreciate the recommendation!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to look those up sometime.
