Last night, hubby and I participated in the Ride of Silence (our first time) in Summerville, SC. It was pretty awesome! For those not familiar with it's purpose, you can visit their website at www.rideofsilence.org
. We had about 20 or so people show up. There were a few other cities in our state that participated, also. My understanding is that 300 cities throughout the U.S. participated. There were also other countries that participated! How amazing!!
These are some of the riders. I didn't get a full-group picture. I was just kind of snapping pics when I could.
That's me on the left. The lady on the right...this is the 2nd time we've ridden with (and met) her. Man-alive! She is SO NICE!!! She is a member of Coastal Cyclists (as were a lot of the riders). It's a local cycling club here in SC. She talks as much, if not more, than me! I was worried that I (we) wouldn't be able to be silent for the ride! haha!
This is the line of cyclists ahead of me. You can see that we had a police escort (leading and pulling up the rear).
This is me with hubby directly over my shoulder. There are others behind him, but my shot wasn't THAT lucky! I do not have an IPhone with the front camera that lets you see the shot you're about to take, so this was sheer LUCK that this pic got me AND my hubby in it! And the look on my face? Well, that's my "don't crash while taking a pic, and don't forget to be SILENT..." face! hahaha!
I'm glad that we were a part of this. It was pretty awesome to be a part of something remembering those who have lost their lives or were injured in bicycle/motorists accidents and to bring awareness to others around us! It's also a realization that cyclists could just as easily be riding in remembrance of any of us!
