Feeling Better

Thursday, May 17, 2012

The spring is tough for me. Every year sometime between midJanuary and midMarch I start to 'fall apart'. I don't fall apart spectacularly. My friends tell me they wouldn't even know if I didn't tell them. But it's in the little things - like not getting out of bed without hitting the snooze button 3 times, running late getting everything done in the AM, being grumpy because I always feel behind, and then crashing into bed earlier than usual. I'd really hoped that regular exercise would fix this cycle - which my mother first noticed back in high school. She attributed it to blues over the impending end of the school year (yes, I was geeky enough that that was plausible) but it has continued well beyond my school years. Regular exercise HAS helped my day-to-day energy levels, mood, and coping abilities. I truly feel happier over all than I did before I exercised intensely and regularly. But this seasonal thing..... it's still there. I have a physical in December and will talk to my doctor about it. She's the one who suggested exercise would help so now that that's in place maybe she'll have some ideas for what's left.

I am finally starting to feel better. I am up with only 1 snooze and am managing to get my morning work done with no issues and even move on to chores or relaxation before the school run. I feel it in other ways as well. I am relieved. Bring on summer!

Did another interval workout. All 'rest' intervals were 5MPH. 'Intense' intervals went 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 6.5, 6. I ran 3.5 miles and then walked half a mile to cool down. I *ran* 3.5 miles. Woo! That means I should be able to set a goal to run the next 5K I enter. Now, running 5K today took longer than my all-out effort that involved some walking last weekend so I may need to have a different TIME goal.... but if I continue to work on running 5K+ I can also work on my pacing so that hopefully next time out I can run the whole thing AND beat my last time. My next race, right now anyway, isn't until the end of September.

YTD: 33 miles
Bodyfat: 20.1-20.7 (upper-lower)

Maybe you have the winter blues, that are just slow to mainfest as it comes into spring?
We all do so much around the holidays and New Year, maybe it is a rebound effect of stress etc? Well, hopefully you will figure it out? Vitamin D?
But you went on a cruise wtih plenty of D Right?!

Well, your intervals look great! Keep at it, that 5K time will be a breeze!
