Trying to Remain Positive

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Last night was my usual Wednesday night Tabata class. I love that class. It kicks my a$$. I am always exhausted but have a tremendous sense of accomplishment when it is over. Not so much last night. My usual instructor wasn't there. He is taking a class every Wednesday night this summer, so this class will be the other trainer all summer long. She is very nice, but I much prefer his style of class and training. I missed him so much. I don't think I worked as hard as I normally do. I was exhausted during burpees, but what else is new. Nothing aches today. I can usually tell what part of the body we worked the night before, but today nothing. Thank goodness, I signed up for personal training with him or this would be a really sad summer. I am trying remain positive and just embrace this new trainer's style.

I think I figured out what was wrong with last night class. No weights. We didn't add a weight to anything. No medicine balls, no dumbbells, no body bars, no kettle bells. So it was more of a cardio workout than a resistance/strength training workout. I do plenty of cardio, I take this class for the strength training aspect.

I have been taking bar classes (yoga/pilates/ballet combo), and have noticed the same about some teachers -- some teachers I hobble away after class, others I skip since nothing hurts. I try to view it as good for my body to have a little bit of a break, and a chance for me to think more about form since I'm not working as hard. But I totally get what you mean -- I signed up for a class at an inconvenient time today just because of the teacher -- I do like the feeling after being pushed really hard!

At least it is only for the summer and you'll still be able to train with him. Maybe you can ask him for suggestions to still get the most out of your Wednesday class.
