Food Photo Diary day 23 (Recipe: Detox Shake... and not the icky green kind!)

Breakfast. Greek yogurt with pumpkin, cacao nibs, almonds, and coconut shreds. Oh and a little bit of ezekiel cereal for texture! I was only able to eat half! Saved the other half for breakfast tomorrow. Super filling and super yums!


Lunch. Chicken, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms with avocado. Got half of that for later, too! Look how much stuff they put on this salad!!! Which Wich makes mean salads. :)


Dinner (and recipe for today): Detox protein shake. It's summertime, getting warm outside, so I'm back to my smoothie ways. Pretty much every year I have at least 3-4 smoothies a week for dinners. And I like to work in 1-2 detox shakes a week... they're delicious and they keep me feeling great!

Here's what I put in mine... there's 2 variations. On metcon or cardio days, I do fruit. On strength or rest days, I omit the fruit and do the chocolate version.

DETOX SHAKE: FRUIT VERSION

1 scoop protein powder (improves metabolism)
1 cup water or almond milk
2 T. lecithin granules (cleanses gallbladder and liver)
1 T. psyillium husks or flax meal (cleanses colon)
a little stevia or other sweetener
1/2 t. ground cinnamon (improves circulation, lowers cholesterol)
1/2 t. vanilla or almond extract (adds flavor)
1/2 to 1 cup berries (adds fiber, natural sweetening, and anti-oxidants)

Blend all ingredients, except berries, until smooth. If you use frozen berries and a handful of ice, you get something like ice cream!! Add berries and blend to desired consistency.


CHOCOLATE VERSION

1 scoop protein powder
1 cup water, almond milk, or coconut milk
2 T. lecithin granules
1 T. psyllium husks or flax meal
1/2 dropper stevia or other sweetener
1 T. cocoa powder
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. vanilla or almond extract
1 cup ICE

Blend all ingredients, except ice, until smooth. Add ice and blend to desired consistency.



BE WARY. Within 1-2 hours the "colon cleansing" effects of these shakes can be felt if you don't eat a lot of fiber on a regular basis. I eat flax almost daily in my pancakes, so it's not quite as shocking to my system, but it still definitely gets to me! Lol!!

    LOL! Oh dang... yeah you might be fine skipping the psyllium! :D

    The shakes sound yummy, but I think I'll try them without the psyllium because I already get about 50 grams of fiber from eating a lot of vegetables and fruits and I'm already going to the bathroom 3-4 times a day.
