This Saturday marks 6 days of grocery shopping daily, after which I have noted I don't need more than 8-9 items a day, which allows me to add one new item a day to my stock of healthier food. I added salmon burgers today, which were mostly salmon (some canola oil) and bought more strawberries at $1 a pound on sale at Meijer.
My family is gone paintballing on a camping trip in cabins letting me eat options like tofu today that they don't eat. I made up the tofu dip recipe in A Week in the Zone by Dr. Sears, the entry level book for the Zone diet and ate it with 1.5 bell peppers in slices and half an apple.
Reading some more of the Blood Sugar Solution book, it looks like the author is recommending similar to the Zone diet which I am on with lean protein, eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and healthy oils and he calls it a Mediterranean diet.
I am grateful so far to the many comments on my new Spark page, which are very encouraging and confirm that I am doing the right thing to get support for a complete lifestyle change.
So far I am doing well at not eating out nor ordering pizza (Friday night pizza was cancelled due to my family's drive to paintballing) but I have a craving for sushi, which I looked for at the grocery store (no luck). Not eating out allows opportunities to actually eat vegetables. Yeah! I bought a whole broccoli today.
Smaller orders appear to be more expensive per item than larger grocery orders. I'm averaging $3 an item for 8-10 item orders at the grocery store compared to $2.30 - $2.40 an item for a 60 to 70 item grocery list. I'm still looking for frugal grocery shopping ideas. Help from readers is welcome on this.
Still walking in 10 minute stints 3-4 times a day aiming at 40 min a day total and one strength training exercise a day from a book or 5 min challenge.
I'm aiming at the next level tomorrow late in the day, by getting as many points as I can today. My ranking says I'm at level 10,000 something currently in Spark Points which is pretty good for someone new to the site.
My change for the day was to add tofu and more salmon to my weekly diet to up Omega-3's and lower cholesterol. Tofu doesn't have cholesterol, does it?
Current feelings include mild headaches (is my body detoxing so generating headaches or is it the amount of soda I'm drinking a day (drinking more water and less soda).
I'm definitely feeling better after balancing my food intake according to the Zone although the lower carbs is making me feel a wee bit less energetic. Perhaps I'm under eating a little bit early in the day and need to eat more for breakfast and lunch.
To sum it up, I definitely feel better already. I decided to keep a log of these blog entries on my computer to keep a record of my day to day journey so I'll cut and paste them into Word early tomorrow.
