Today my employer had a blood drive, which is customary every 2 months or so. I always try to donate. Most of the time I am able to do just that. For a while my iron level would be too low, and I couldn't. Since that happened like 2 or 3 times in a row, I started making sure I was taking a daily multi-vitamin as well as an iron supplement.
Since the last time I gave blood and this time, I joined Sparkpeople. I can really tell a big difference in my vital signs. My pulse is usually on the borderline of 100--which is the cut off point to where it is considered too fast and you are rejected. This time, I am proud to say that mine was 82. That is the lowest it has been in a very long time. Also, the last few times I have had my blood pressure taken, it has been a little high. I think last time it was 140/99. The highest the bottom number can be to donate is 100. This time my BP was 122/73 which was much better. I guess I am doing something right! Now, I will have to wait a few weeks and see what my cholesterol level is. I believe it was around 175 last time. Under 200, but still a little high.
The only bad thing was---they still had to bring the big cuff out. I guess that will be something to work on for next time.
