I decided, on April 26, that I would not be eating dessert for two months. This would take me to June 26, which is my birthday. I'll celebrate with something reasonable, then I'll see again how long I think I need to give myself before eating dessert again.
By dessert, I mean any kind of ice cream, candy, brownie, cookie, or donut. When I eat these foods, it is really hard for me to stop. After doing "Made to Crave," I realized that I have power over food (not vice versa) and I can say "no" to it any time and for as long as I want.
I haven't been missing it either. My weight and my general "feel-gooded-ness" were in the tank before starting this. Since starting, it has really helped me focus on getting back to the things that I need to do to take care of myself. My diet has been better, and whenever my diet is good, it makes me want to make the most of my good eating by keeping up with exercise, water, and good sleep.
I do have dessert, but they are things that are much better for me. I like to eat some dates with walnuts, or a mashed, frozen banana with a little bit of baking cocoa. I went through a bag of figs since starting as well. I like all these things, and I like that the things I am now eating for dessert are much more healthful options.
