Lives in the Balance

Thursday, May 10, 2012

I am a bit frustrated today. Having had a child who was an addict, we have read and know that it takes six months to a year, according to many, to get them free of that addiction. I work at a rehab now. We used to be a four month program. Then we got a grant and we went to a three month program. Now they have lessened that to 55 days. The girls know that they cannot remain clean and sober without the proper tools and part of that takes time to establish in a life full of bad decisions. All of us here know that you do not change overnight when some of our bad habits took a life time to achieve. Just because you will yourself different, doesn't always make you different. Support and encouragement are key to learning a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes we need a helping hand to help us in our quest to change. Some of us were addicts to food and understand this so much better than others. It breaks my heart to see children who will return to abusive situations and mom doesn't have the strength that, sometimes, only time can provide to make that big step away from it. I wonder if it is not all motivated by cold, hard cash. How can someone live with themselves when they look at money as being the bottom line and not changed lives? Oh that their eyes would be opened. Oh that they would truly look at what the evidence supports. Please keep us in your prayers that they would learn what we have learned here and lives would be changed forever in a posistive direction.
